Productinformation

Zinnia Elegans, Queen lime orange flower seeds

The ‘Queen’ series is an amazing achievement in flower breeding. All zinnias in this series are uniquely colored and have half or fully double flowers.
The plants grow to a height of about 75 cm with a well-branched growth and sturdy straight stems. They produce large flowers of 7.5 cm and are very suitable as cut flowers.
A reliable workhorse in striking colors. These new varieties tolerate high temperatures well and are slightly more resistant to mildew (white fungal powder on the leaves). If orange is not your color you might like the red or green blush Zinnia.

How to grow zinnias from seed

Start sowing zinnias indoors in seed trays about 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost date or sow outdoors in trays until June. Provide plenty of light when you start seedlings indoors. A sunny southern windowsill or patio is the best. Plant out the zinnia seedlings after all chance of frost has passed. Zinnias can also be sown directly as soon as the weather is warmer. But if you selected a special flower you like to grow it’s best to maximize success and start seeds in trays. Please note that they cannot withstand any frost!

Zinnias need full sun. They do well in warm areas, as long as they get enough moisture. They like rich soil and grow best on compost or fertilizer that slowly releases nutrients. Halfway through or at the end of the flowering period, you can give them an extra dose of fertilizer. Zinnias should be given extra water weekly if it doesn’t rain much. Prevent the leaves from getting too wet to prevent disease.

Zinnia is easy to grow

Zinnias are not difficult to grow, except in extremely humid summers which can sometimes cause plants to get powdery mildew. Lots of slugs in your garden? Protect young plants from slugs and snails with slug pellets, a trap, or by hand. Sowing in trays helps your plants grow big and save before the slugs eat them. Remove dead flowers regularly and you will be rewarded with lots more flowers.

Pick zinnia flowers when the flower stem is stiff. You can check to see if the flowers are ready by wiggling the stems. If the flowerhead is floppy, wait a few more days until the flower is ready.
