How to grow Chinese aster king Pink from seed

Cultivating annual asters from seed is a rewarding, straightforward process. For the best start, we recommend sowing seeds indoors from late winter to early spring. Use seed trays placed on a sunny windowsill or inside a greenhouse to create the perfect environment. While direct sowing in April is possible, we typically avoid this approach in the Netherlands due to our shorter growing season.

Interestingly, aster seeds don’t require burial under soil—simply scatter them on top, and you’ll see seedlings sprouting up in no time. However, patience is key, as these plants take their time to grow. By the end of April, after gradually introducing your seedlings to outdoor conditions, they’ll be ready for planting out. Supporting the plants with stakes is essential, especially to accommodate their grand blooms.

For healthy growth year after year, remember to rotate their spot in your garden. This simple practice helps prevent Fusarium Wilt, ensuring your asters remain vibrant. With minimal care, your plants will flourish, adorning your garden with beautiful flowers right up until the early autumn.

When to pick Chinese aster flowers

Do you love gathering blossoms from your garden? If so, the Chinese aster is an ideal choice for you! For the best results, pick these flowers when the petals have just unfolded, but before the yellow pollen becomes visible. Harvesting them at this stage ensures they can brighten up your space for up to 10 days. Remember to strip off any foliage that will sit below the waterline and change the water regularly to keep your flowers fresh and vibrant.
