Productinformation

Helianthus debilis Italian White
Helianthus debilis is also known as beach sunflower, native to the United States. The small flower on branched stems require little to no care and produce many sunflowers. The Italian  White sunflower grows very soft cream yellow sunflowers on relatively long stems. They are excellent cut flowers due to their more manageable size and softer tone. Many pollinators are attracted by the flowers. This is our favorite type of sunflower!

How to grow sunflower Italian White from seed
I am certain anyone with a love for plants will be able to grow sunflowers. For many children, it’s one of their first grown plants. You can start seeds indoors or in the greenhouse to extend the flower harvesting period, but you can directly sow seeds. birds and rabbits love to eat young sunflowers so you might have to protect them if you direct sow. That’s why we always start sunflowers in deep 40 or 28 cell seed trays.

We start seeds a few weeks before our last expected frost date in the greenhouse. But if you have a windowsill or small cold frame or plastic box with air ventilation you will be able to start them earlier as well. Plant out the young sunflowers after the danger of frost has passed. sunflower Italian White required very little care. If you like to harvest the seeds, cover the heads or store them to dry. Birds have always found the seeds before we even noticed they were ready…

Sow 2 or 3 times with 4-6 weeks in between If you like a more continuing flowering period. Especially if you like to grow them as cut flowers we can highly recommend sowing them multiple times. If you prefer to keep the plants a bit more compact you can pinch them (cut the tip out of seedlings) when they are 40 to 50 cm tall. If you grom them as cut flowers you can fit 2 plants on a 75 cm bed but it is a bit harder to pass in-between the rows (haha!)

Mooie, kleine zonnebloem

Rated 5.0 out of 5
October 8, 2022
